By using Plainly's website or API, you agree to these terms. We've tried to keep them as plain as the rest of the site.

What Plainly is

Plainly is a free dictionary tool that rewrites word definitions in plain English, along with a public API for the same purpose. It's provided as-is, with no account required.

Definitions aren't professional advice

Some of Plainly's content - including the medical-terms and legal-terms word lists - explains specialized vocabulary in plain English. These explanations are generated to aid general understanding and are not medical, legal, financial, or any other kind of professional advice. Don't use Plainly as a substitute for consulting a qualified doctor, lawyer, or other professional. Definitions are AI-assisted and, while we try to keep them accurate, they can be incomplete, oversimplified, or wrong.

Using the API

• API keys are free and rate-limited (currently 3 keys per day per IP address, with per-key request limits).
• Don't use the API to scrape data at a scale that degrades the service for others, and don't try to circumvent rate limits.
• We may revoke API keys or block access at our discretion if we see abuse.
• The API is provided as-is with no uptime guarantee. We'll try to keep it reliable, but we're not promising it.

Acceptable use

Don't use Plainly for anything illegal, to harm others, or to interfere with the site or API's normal operation.

No warranty

Plainly is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or availability of any definition, the website, or the API.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Plainly and its operator aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site or API, including reliance on any definition or explanation provided.

Changes

We may update these terms as Plainly changes. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Indonesia, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
